Hi and welcome from the new guy.

I have just started my tank again after finally losing the last fish of my first attempt of fish keeping. Moved from cold water to tropical.

Problem is now that the new bulb I bought does not work, as well as the old one and I am 99% sure this is to do with the electrical connections at either end of the bulb.

It is a llight-glo tank (18") and appears to have the bulb with just some stick on connections that carry the power back through the bulb. Can anyone please help? I want to get the fish next week but want to give them at least some light for when they move into their new home :)

Many thanks

Welcome to the tank. I'm not sure I understand what your asking but if your new bulb isnt working then my guess would be the fixture. Have you checked to make sure you have the right style bulb, it's possible the bulb is damaged but more likely the ballast in your hood is malfunctioning.

Thanks for your reply.

My old bulb flashed and could not turn on, and with the old and new bulb showing no power at all I am pretty confident it is not the bulb.

Either end of the bulb are 2 white attachments that the bulb slots into. Obviouslly 1 end has power going to it but the other appears to be a sitting for the other half to power it up. So I basicially think the power ends of the bulb are gone.

Does that help at all?

ok your looking for the pieces that go into the fixture, i got it. Sorry lack of sleep last night do to family in town and flying out early this morning. IMO it would be cheaper to replace the hood/fixture. Every light fixture I have tore apart the wires are soldered to the recepticles, I have had to repair some before for ballasts, but i wouldnt know where to get those pieces from, maybe a home depot or lowes but most likely an actual lighting store.

Sorry not much help.

P.S. look on the package of the light to make sure you get the right size connectors, i know of 3 different sizes, T5,T8, T12 this refers to the size of the "stick connectors".
