White Algae???

Is there such a thing?  I have these little white things (cotton like) that sticking to sides of the tanks where ever the water moves slow.  The fish seem fine, but it's getting worse quick.  Can someone help?

I think this is a fungus and not an algae - is it growing on something (like an old algae wafer, food?)

If you remove it does it come back ?

It's going mainly on the sides of the tank, but only in portions where the water moves slow.  It's also goving on the power filters, the water moves slowly there too.  I have been medicating for a different problem (after this started) with Maracyn and Maracyn II and it don't seem to be killing it.  I just started noticing today that the fish seem to scratching more than usual.  If I clean the tank it does come back in a couple of days.

What you have is not  a fungus...could be planaria, or other basic lifeforms. They are harmless, but they do indicate a need for less feedings and more vaccings of the gravel. They seem to survivie best in overfed and undermaintained tanks.

Thanks everyone,  I'll cut down the feeding and a couple of water changes this week.
