White Gunk on Filter

The front of my filter and part of the tank hood look like someone splashed milk on them. I believe the discoloration is from Melafix-treated water splashes. I've tried multiple times to wipe the white gunk off, and it comes off for a little while, but then reappears, even if I haven't used Melafix for months. The white gunk is very unattractive, and I'd like to know if anyone has had similar problems and how to get it off! Thank you! And yes, I do frequent water changes and follow the instructions on the bottle. And I never overdose.

you sure that's not just calcium/mineral deposits?
if its crusty, its calcium. if it's white stains, its likely cuz your water has a high GH.

anyway vinegar solutions get that stuff off nicely. just don't get vinegar in the tank..

What's the easiest way to apply the vinegar solution? I have some calcium stains that got onto the top of my glass from evaporation when I went on vacation over the holiday (Kalamazoo, MI has notoriously hard water) and I've been too nervous to try and get it off. My tank has been stable now for about 5-6 months and I didn't wanna ruin it :D

mix vinegar with 50% water, and try it. do not use it IN the tank if there are fish in there, or if the tank is setup.

Don't know what you slime is then sorry liltank...but try vinegar anyway.
