Hello

I just noticed I have tiny little white things all over my tank glass and rocks. You can't even see them until you look really close. The kind of wave in the current of the tank. The fish seem fine right now but these things are all over the place. Is this some sort of disease that I need to treat for? Please help

Thanks

They look more like little Sea anenomes, jelly fish things. They ar not free floating but stuck on the sides of the glass. Very small. I have 125 gallon tank with a big canister filter with natrual filter media and a hotmagnum hangon with a carbon filter. I just got a few new fish a few days ago and I'm guessing it was something in that water. What's melafix?

Or it could be plankton, which are not harmful to your fish at all, but are actually just very annoying! How often are you feeding? Plankton is usually caused by overfeeding. To get rid of them, feed very lightly for about a week.

I know this is an old thread.. But i hope someone can help me to get rit of those anoying white things..
They are Vorticella (Vorticelldea) and I hate them!
Is there any sort of toxic or something? Salt does not help..
I think i got these white spots for 3 month now.. And i have clean the tank more then once:mad:

are you sure they are the protozoans you speak of? because
1. white wavy things that move independently of tank current are nematodes.
2. polyp or anemone looking things are hydra. anabantoids and other fish eat them.
3. if they are those protozoans you said they were, then some fish will probably eat them. i bet some shrimp will eat them too.

So what i would do is get fish in the tank once its cycled or some sort of shrimp. for fish I would bet that some types of pleco will clean those off of any hard surfaces in the tank. i'd bet on omnivorous and carnivorous pleco types. though other fish might eat them too.

notice when I say bet repeatedly. this is all speculation.

Since the stuff is white it couldn't be algae. I would guess it is a fungus or something else. But it's not a disease but may caused by over feeding.
