Hey I'm new here so please bear with me. I got 6 goldfish last week to try and get the tank worked in, because I heard your supposed to start with goldfish. 2 days or so later, I noticed one of them with a white spot on it's tail, it is a raised spot. The other 5 goldfish died, but he is still living. I had done some research and found out it might be ick but it says it looks like someone sprinkled them with salt but he only has one spot. I have a 10 gallon tank, I took him out of the big tank and put him into a fishbowl to quarentine him. Does anyone have any idea what it might be and if I should keep him in the bowl? He doesn't seem to be eating but he is still living, it's been like 3-4 days now since he's been in there.
I've cleaned out the water in the 10 gallon and have gotten new fish for it. They are all doing good.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea if it is ick that the fish has or what it is.

white spots

the white spot hasn't grown at all and it's just one spot, it doesn't look fuzzy at all. The spot is a little smaller an a pen tip. It looks like it could be a mole for a fish. Now I've been noticing with the fish in the other tank that one goldfish has 1 white spot on either side of it, same size as other fish. He also has this other spot that looks like he is "shedding skin" Another fish has a very, very small spot on his top fin.
This is sooooooo aggravating.*ALL*
The lady I talked to at the pet store by me, said something about ammonia burn? Any ideas on that?

It could well be ammonia burn. Five goldfish in a 10g tank is way too many, even for cycling with fish. Have you tested the ammonia or had the fish store test it?

It could also be ich, brought on by high ammonia. If you read the "stickies" in the beginners freshwater section you can read up about cycling your tank, so the fish make it through. :)
