I had a puffer that just died. Ive been doing some research and is it possible that the puffer had flex and ICH? I'm going to petsmart today...can anybody tell me what meds to get? my other puffer is getting white spots over him along with my guppy.

hello
i usually use quickcure when my puffer gets ich, and it has always worked. Take out any carbon media and dose it for 5 days, even though the ich looks like its gone, but only half the recommended strength, becasue it will burn their skin if you put in the full amount. Then do a water change and put in fresh carbon. Also, try raising your temp to 85-87 and add some aquarium salt.

i used freshwater coppersafe by mardel when my puffs had ich...but i used it at 1/2 dosage because puffers can be more sensitive to meds then other fish...but if your guy is pretty far gone (from your description it seems he is) i would go the full dosage...do whatever you feel comfortable with

make sure to do daily (or every other day) water changes even if its just 10% so you can vac the gravel because during part of it lifecycle ich is in the gravel so by vacuuming regularly you can reduce the ich that can get on your fish

also try adding some freshwater aquarium salt along with whatever meds you decide on...salt helps improves gill fuction ( gill function can be impaired when ich is present) but dont add it all at once disolve 4tbs (1tbs per 5gal) in a small separate container of water and add maybe 1/4 of the salt water mixture at a time over the course of one day...salt also supposedly kills ich and bacteria as well

good luck and let us know how it goes
