A friend of mine has had an aquarium for a few months and has just found what he describes as wiggly, skinny "white worms," the size and shape of fish poop, about an inch long each.  They seem to be living in the gravel, some will attach themselves to the tank wall by their "mouth".  Can anyone please identify this critter, is it harmful, and if so how can he get rid of them??

Thanks.

I have had these in fry tanks before. I think i know what these are and i know that they really aren't harmful at all. The dealer said that it was becasue they was too much uneaten food and it allows these little buggers to prosper. They usually come in on something also.  Mine went away i think by the fish eating them i think. So they shouldn't be a problem. *celebratesmiley*  *thumbsupsmiley*

Could be Hydras. I don't know how big hydras get mine were only like a few milimeters and were attached to the tank walls.

Harmless to normal size fish but can catch small fry and eat them. Some fish eat them up, otherwise they went away for me.

My Oscar had huge poop..hope they are not that size!! ;)
