crap, I forfot to put the plexi glass back over my tank and my light fell in...uh-oh..it keeps flashing on and off...no damage done to any fish, just lighting..It is flourescent lighting..I just need to trade in the bulb..The fish are still swimming..

might be more than just the bulb, if water got into the ballast it could be causing an intermitent short

no, the lighting is fine, it is still starting the bulb, just the bulb keeps smoking..

Just because the light turns on, doesn't mean that the ballast is ok. Also, uh, do you still have it turned on even though it's smoking?

Those bulbs are pretty well water proof - they have to be - they're gas-filled.

The starters and chokes are not water proof at all - and if your bulb is "smoking" it's more likely to be a problem with the choke etc

Disconnect - dry thoroughly - (like take apart, dry off what you can, and leave for at least 24 hrs before re-assembling) - and you "might" be ok.

Continue to use it as it is and you risk blowing the whole set-up (and starting a fire thread)

Use contact cleaner on the circut, it cleans and thats what they use on mobile phones when water damaged also u should have used a blow dryer and the left it under a lamp to dry for 24 hours, usually works with phones
