Yes, those videos are great, I am surprised how quickly the substrate settles and how clean it appears to be - unless he lets it set for awhile, but he doesn't appear to - actually it doesn't say how long he spends on each tank.

I saw that series of videos a few months ago. it is really cool. It's more or less kinda what i try to do in my tanks. I like the natural look as opposed to the bright colors. my girlfriend wants me to redo one of my tanks with pink and blue gravel with bright fake plants lol. I just can't do it lol. there is another guy that does INCREDIBLE high tech tanks.

this is my favorite one Crimson Sky Nature Aquarium Aquascape by James Findley - YouTube

I can imagine the maintenance of that green machine tank. although it looks truly beautiful, you really have to give it your all to clean it, trim the plants regularly and correctly, and fertilize it and refill the CO2 regularly. high maintenance beauty :p
I tried an iwagumi tank before. they are tedious. 3/4 of the tank was a baby tear carpet.

from my understanding with proper CO2 and everything most algae can be kept at bay. as for the trimming there has to be alot i agree. I'm planning on buying a 5 pound CO2 tank and doing it on my 55. from my understanding that will last about a year at one bubble per second. and i know a 5 pound tank costs 20 bucks to fill at my local paintball place. start up is going to cost a bit but not to bad.

i ran CO2 on my 40 gallon in the past. yes to refill a tank it costs about $20. i had a 10lb tank. but i had to drive 40 mins away to refill it at a port area lol. i planned that i would last a year but it ran out in 6 months lol. be careful when installing it and check for leaks! they are not obvious!
I figured i must have had a leak somehow if that is all it lasted for. it gives great results though. you won't get any algae in your tank. having SAEs also helps :p

I can stop off at my paintball place on my way to work. it's maybe 3 miles out of my way. I'm also looking at an electronic regulator with a timer. and i'll keep the leaks in mind and have some soapy water at hand to check.
