I just started my tank several weeks ago and I got 8 ghost shrimp after algae was built up(liked how they look and swim around ... funny).  Anywho, rather quickly I noticed them disappearing, but couldn't find any bodies.  Most were rather small so maybe they were just hard to find once they died.  But I also don't know if they were eaten.  I'm kinda wondering the same thing you are.  However, I only have swordtails, bleeding-heart tetras and black phantom tetras.  I kinda doubt these fish would eat the shrimp, but I don't know for sure.

i doubt tiger barbs would eat your shrimp

shrimp have an exoskeleton that should make it hard for most smaller freshwater fish like barbs, danios, livebearers etc.. to eat them

i know puffers eat them but i dont think tiger barbs could or would

not speaking from personal experience tho  ;)

When the shrimp moult, they loose their hard exoskeleton in order to grow into a larger one. During the in-between phase they are shoft-shelled and able to be chomped on by fish. Tanks that have ample hiding spaces might find the shrimp survive until their shells harden, but tanks with no hiding spaces will be giving their fish free lunch.

There are mixed reviews about shrimp. Personally I don't have any so I wouldn't know the answer to your question.

Ghost shrimp are extremely good at hiding, but are tasty according to my betta.  He's eaten 10  ;D of them and keeps asking for more (with fries please).  You could get amano shrimp they are bigger, but cost more.

Yeah ... I heard Amano shrimp are a good alternative, but I can't find any one that sells them.  I was surprised to find That Fish Place doesn't carry them.  Grumble, grumble.  They do have Vampire shrimp, though.  Really neat looking / fun to watch, but they're huge and cost $25.  Also, saw an awesome blue lobster, but I think it was over $35.  Very tiny and can live in freshwater.  Wohoo!

well it looks like i will try to put some sort of shrimp in the tank as long as they will not eat my plants i'll be fine w/ the barbs picking them off one at a time if it happens so be it ther is an empty 20 gallon w/ shrimp name all over it or i could use it for a survivor type theme every time i see a barb go after the shrimp and get it in there mouth in comes the net and the get 5 days solitary confinement in the 20 gallon hole lol i'd never do that well maybe no i couldent
