This is something I've been wondering about for a while, do glass catfish eat alge, any alge? Different scources say different things. One says that these catfish are bottomfeeders, another says they swim on the top. And one says they will eat alge while another says they'll only eat meaty foods.
*sigh* Please help me!

Which glass cats -the african, indian or S american ones?

Anyway the definitive website for cats is planetcatfish.com. Go to it, then to the cat-e-log, and sort by common name and look at glass catfish.

I don't think any of them will eat algae though

let's assume the asian variety--those are the ones seen 95% of the time in the fish trade. glass catfish don't behave like normal cats. they'll school in semi-stationary groups (absolutely must: get 3 *minimum*). they will definitely *not* eat algae. they are not built for it.

i have been keeping the glass catfish for about 2 years now and they only eat from the surface of food that goes past them in the water column. They have never fed off of the bottom or grazed on plants or algae. I believe in nature they would eat small insects from the water surface.
