I have a 40 gallon tank, running with Eheim ProII 2028. The tank's been going for 2 years now. Never had a disease outbreak, never had cloudy water either. The Eheim's output is channeled to a Marineland Biowheel Pro 30. I used to have a Filstar XP3 in addition to the Eheim, but I took it out because the flow is getting lower, I had to clean it every week to get it back like normal.
Here's the problem, the water is clear, but not crystal sparkling clear. I see these particulate matters floating around. I thought they're air bubbles from the Marineland Biowheel Pro, but as there are some larger sized ones floating around, it becomes obvious that they're not. I used to have Eclipse 6 and 12, I got perfect crystal clear water.
Although the Eheim is cleaned once a month, I'm not sure if the mechanical filtration is working; it doesn't seem to keep these particles at bay. Inside the Eheim, I have Eheim blue coarse, EhfiFix, DocFish's Super Activated Carbon, Biochem Zorb, EhfiMech, EhfiSubstrat and EhfiLav in that order bottom up. On the last part I have filter floss and micron filter pads. Because of the frequent maintenance, the mechanical media are relatively clean, and output flow is excellent.
How can I get the water sparkling clear? Will a power filter "polish" the water?
