Will it burn the motor?

Hi :D

I'm going to making DepthC's DIY Co2 unit, and am planning on sticking the air tubing in the grill of my canister's (Eheim ecco..can't remember the number part), and was wondering if it would burn the motor? Would it cause any harm at all doing it this way? I want to be certain because replacing any parts on this filter is mostly likely going to be costly. :) If it will do any harm, what would be a better way to diffuse the Co2? I don't think using an inline reactor is ideal, since it is a DIY unit...and I'd rather not risk anything bad happening..:) Any input is helpful!!!

some filters have a type of lock on them that will either expell any gasses in the canster.

I dont think that it would really harm it. I did it for a good while with an HOB and never had any problems with it.

Actualy, IMHO, if you are using a DIY co2 mix, an inline reactor would be better as you would get more effecentcy out of the mix you have. Sounds like there may a particular reason why you don't want to go inline though. What is it?

lol it wont explode :) the inline reactor would probably be as safe as sticking the end of the co2 tube into the filter because the water flow is the same speed so if you're worried about the mix being sucked in its probably gonna be the same whichever way you do it. I think if you have the money or have the DIY skills then either make or get an inline reactor cause its way more effecient. All the filter can really do is break it into tiny pieces and have it run like 3ft of tubing and into the tank and some of it might still get out. But the inline reactor really diffuses almost all of it to where you don't see any bubbles coming out of the output of the filter. If i were you and if it is safe to stick the co2 tube into the filter then i'd try that way of diffusing first then if its not effecient try out a differnt way of diffusing. On a 50g you still have a lot of options compared to a 100g which usualy needs a pretty effecient reactor but on the 50g you can try out diffusing ladders, sticking it into the canister, air stones, etc.
