Just realize I have a female convict. What r the chances of it breeding with my other fishes, assuming i have males in the tank.

if you have another male convict in the tank, chances are theyll breed. worked for me, its just the first set of fry disappeared, then the female wasnt ready to breed again, the male was, and i was too late getting her out of the tank. good luck if breeding is what your trying to do though.

Convict cichlids will breed with Firemouths, Blood Parrots, Red Devils, Midas cichlids, Texas cichlids, and i'm sure i've missed some names. So maybe they aren't just the "rabbits of the cichlid world" they may very well be the

You say you have texas cichlids and they may be a pair?

Well, if they are a pair and you want to "crossbreed" don't split them up and see if one crosses with the con, because that's mean IMHO.

But if your texas cichlids tunr out to be two males then you can take one and cross it with your female con.

Oh, and do you have a description or any pics of this "other cichlid" that you also have??

Play frankinstien all you want but please, i discourage you from putting the hybrid out on the market. I also discourage you from evening trying to do it....if they do it on their own....thats one thing. But thats my opinion.

Its a possiblity the con might breed with its tankmates....hey its been done before. :X

im with cichlid-man on the hybrid thing. if they crossbreed themselves, thats one thing, but please dont try to put more hybrids out on the market. just my view on the whole situation, i dont wanna turn this thread into an argument about hyrbids...many people here on mft have strong mixed views on the whole hybrid thing

Ok, let's make something clear.

lilcam didn't want to breed!

He/she was just CURIOUS!

Oh and lilcam I would take out the Baenschi simply because since it's a malawi cichlid and they can't handle the same diet as convicts and texas. Malawi cichlids require a low protein diet. And even though they will eat anything, it doesn't mean it's good for them.

What are you feeding your fish

If it's stuff like frozen foods and live foods the baenschi will eventually die from malawi bloat from eating those foods.

So for malawi cichlids you should give them a diet of good quality flake food (with a protein percentage in the 30's) and it's also important to give them some plant based foods(spirulinia discs, spirulinia flakes, etc, etc)

I feed my fishes flake food and shredded earthworm.
I'll be taking the two texas cichlids out, but I'm not sure if they are a pair. One has a black spot underneath its mouth. The other one doesnt and I'm hoping they're a pair. I'm looking for the bump on their head, but I didnt see one, but I think they are still young.
