Will they get along?

Just saw a Yellow Lab Cichlid (tenderly named "African King" in chinese, wonder why?), and I fell in love. So I came home and did research, according to http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/fwcompatibility_chart.cfm
it's not compatible with my neon tetras, guppies and betta. Is there some sort of exception? can it be that this fellas are only making a sweeping statement and that the chart is flawed? really appreciate your help!!

that chart is very much correct. unfortunately your yellow lab is much too aggressive to be kept with your other fish, and would probably end up killing them. Yellow labs should really only be kept with other african cichlids from lake malawi.

I agree with phooey, that chart is pretty accurate. African cichlids should never be kept with tetras, guppies, or other community fish. They have their own level of aggression, which is why you only keep them with each other.

hmmm....wow...thanks...the LFS here in my town are quite lousy, in fact I dare say that 80% of the shops here still use equipment that they ordered 10 years ago. And they know only enough to keep the fich alive long enough to be sold. Ex: one shop named a Opaline Gourami as a Swordtail, 'cause it was orangy red and it looked abit similar. Pretty sad, but hey, that's life. *DRUMMER*
