will this cichlid work?

I have a 30 gallon tank that I'm beginning to cycle.I was wondering what cichlid would work the best? I'm looking for a cichlid that doesn't COMPLEATLY depend on goldfish. I'm looking into a jack dempsey...

No cichlid completely depends on goldfish....

But I'd reccomend convicts or rainbow cichlids...cool fish..if you cna find someoen to buy the hundreds of fish they will soon create.

Get some Jacks!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT, don't get any cichlids for cycling your tank.........Get some catfish or something.......

zimmerlyct...just to remind you a nandopsis octafasciatum wants a minimum of 55g for a single specimen....
i would go with convicts...or salvini
