As I was getting dressed this morning, I noticed that my Rubberlip Pleco had died during the night. He had been in the tank for around five months with no problems whatsoever, so his death last night shocks me.

I seem to have little luck with Rubberlip plecos. Winston was the second Rubberlip Pleco that I have had, the first one dying within two or three weeks of being introduced into the tank.

However, my very first Pleco was a Common Pleco and he has grown to over 11 inches in two years and continues to thrive in the 55 gallon tank. Maybe Rubberlip Pleocs are not as haryd as Common Pleco’s? I’m not sure.

Sorry to hear of your pleco passing. As far as i know rubber lips are as hardy as other plecos. They are just smaller; 3-5 inches. I will add that my mother has had bad luck with rubber lipped plecos as well.
