The new 2005 inventory replaces the old 2004 units. New units have two cooling fans, mounting legs and 2-LED Blue Moon lights. The unit comes with 2 - 65 Watt bulbs - (1) daylight and (1) actinic.
I have a 29g that im going to make a reef out of will this be sufficiant for the reef to grow? it is a JEBO ODYSSEA 24" BLACK QUAD Compact Flourescent Fixture
Thanks
Casey

Well, you could keep some lower light and easy corals such as some softies, mushrooms, zoanthids, some large polyped stony corals, etc. Maybe some mid levels. The basics pretty much.

Watt per gallon (watts divided by gallons) isnt the best measurement because lets say 2 tanks have the same volume, but different height. The lower one will allow more light to hit the corals. Its depth and intensity. Higher will need more light to penetrate the water.

29 gallon tanks are 30 inches long, so having a unit of 24 inches it might not do a great job of spreading light to the far corners of the tank. But positioned in middle with 3 inches on either side shouldnt be to bad.

You can keep most things with that, tho' some might brown out. Chuck the sctinic 65 watt and get a second 14K or 18K. The output of actinics in PAR is lousy, they're purely aesthetic.
If you want to get marginal with lighting to save money get used to the fact that you will need to be prompt at changing bulbs (approx every 6 months) and get used to running carbon 100% of the time to stop any yellowing in the water affecting your limited output.

PC bulbs only need to be replaced about once every 12 months, it is your regular florecents that are every 6 months... that's what I've heard.
