Worm like thing

I was cleaning another one of my tanks out the other day and came across some worm like things in the water removed they looked reddish and were alive still, does anyone have any ideas what they could be?

It sounds like a bristol worm, these are scavengers and are normally good for the tank. I have a couple that are 8"-12" long. They come out at feeding time or at night to eat the food the fish have missed, these can help to keep the water parameters better.
