I bought an oto about a month ago and in the past couple of weeks I have started to get worried. In the last week he has rarely come out of hiding. In fact I thought that he had died and that I simply did not see him because my bamboo shrimp had taken care of the body. But he is still alive but his stomach is big. Doesnt look like dropsy, but more like pregnancy. I do not know how otos have babies, via eggs or what. But that is kind of what is stomach looks like. I know that I am not over feeding. I would just like to hear any ideas as to what you all think that it could be.

About once a month we are reminded that our otto is fat and happy (and still alive) because that is the only time we spot him. So I wouldnt worry too much about not being able to see him everytime you look at the tank. I've found that they are also very well and blending in with what ever they may be sitting on, so that makes them even more difficult to see.

Mine swims away as soon as he spots me. I think that is the main reason why I do not spot him. The tank he is in is right next to the computer that I am on. When I walked out here he was on the front of the glass but as soon as he saw me he retreated to the back. As long as he is fine then it is all good. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a condition or disease that otos are known to get. Thanks for the help.
