Yellow tangs now have limits on the number collected. I believe puffers and some other fish are not being collected. Yellow tangs will now be much more expensive. To be honest, I think it could be a good thing. There are too many people buying tangs for small tanks, and basicalling giving them a death sentence. If the fish costs more like $200, people will think twice before putting them in a 30g tank. For a fish that has a lifespan of 45 years, it seems that 250,000 collected a year seems a lot.

You'll probably be able to get a yellow tang from a store, but just at a higher price. :)

There's an article here: Sea Shepherd -- Enslaving the World's Reef Fish

ban

well i know at least most of the pet shops here where i live in ny and around me wont be seling tangs and the others after the ban starts i think it is a good thing also if the numbers are getting daneroulsy low its what needs to be done to protect the species. i guess i need to get one to put in my 55 gallon tank before the ban right now they are runing 54.99 for the local pet store here
but i agree if its best for them to stop or slow the sale to protect them why not

Seems it is very recent because I had ordered 3 juveniles from one of my LFS' about 2 weeks ago, and they got them in, but the owner didn't think they were healthy, so he ordered 3 more for me, and then told me that the second order was denied because of the ban and the first 3 all died.

So no tangs for me, I'm not even going to get one now that I read everything about how they are collected.
