Yawning Dojo?

Well, I have 2 dojos in my 29gal, and the other day I was just watching the smaller one lay around like the lazy guy he is. There was no food nearby(that I could see), but his whiskers were wiggling like crazy and than all of a sudden he opened his mouth, shook his tail and, well, yawned? Is he sick? Crazy? Or was he eating flake food that fell to the bottom and shouting his fishy triumph? Anyone else seen this type of yawning behavior?

Most fish do this. I've seen my Firemouths and Clown Loaches do it. I'm not sure if it's "yawning" per se, but that's what it looks like.

i have seen loooads of my fish do this... my angelfish, catfish, rams, kribs... lots more... i think maybe they do yawn but in a different way to us

Yea I gotta gree with that, both my clown loaches and my dojo loaches are both notorius for that. My Dojo loaches seem to do it more often though. Just call it one of their quirky habits

it is actuly a sign telling the other fish that there isfood in the tank

When i was at an aquarium recently, there was masssive fish, (i'm talking a couple of feet long) and one swam past me in the tank was looked like it was yawning too! It was odd because they were so big and you could see the little 'yawn' in so much detail!

it always surprises my how big the fishes mouth is when they yawn, it looks so tiny when its closed.
