At last we have eggs! YAY!

Noticed my kribs doing a lot of 'shimmying' inside their coconut cave a few days ago and the female looking chubby. Then last night she suddenely looked very thin, so i got my flashlight out and...yippeee...a nice little batch of eggs on the inside of the coconut cave.
Both parents are taking turns watching the eggs with no aggression between them (yet), and the gourami has learnt to stay at the other end of the tank.

I'm sooo excited, i've waited 2 months for this. I'm going to be a mommy!!!

Heh, lucky you. One of my kribs has obvious signs of internal parasites so i wont see any breeding going on especially if they are both males.

Is this your first brood of krib babies?

Yeah it will be my first brood with my kribs (and any other fish for that matter) so i'm really hoping everything goes smoothly for me.
(Sorry to hear about your kribs parasites depthC, that can be a real bummer can't it.)

Eggs still look as though they're doing okay at the mo, just waiting with my fingers crossed for wrigglers.

Hey karma were did you get your coconut cave? I just picked one up from petsmart and was wondering on how I would go about cleaning it up a bit for the tank. Did you do anything special or did you just put it in the tank with all that woody stuff that easily peals off the outside?

Yeah IP's are a real bummer. I ordered some metro off big als friday night and today its sunday and too late to save him. He passed away last night I found him today under some driftwood and i really couldnt of helped him in any way with out meds. The water was crystal clear ( I just setup the tank what five days ago maybe) but he wasnt getting any better. Thats just how it is with internal parasites. Well atleast Ill have meds for any new fish with them.

Good luck with your babies. And do you have a camera? It would be nice to see them if possible.

Hi depthC, with the coconut caves i just got an ordinary cocont, sawed it in half, drilled a hole, removed the white flesh and then...steamed it in a pan of boiling water for about 15 minutes, this removes some of the brown colouration from the shell. Then you can either pull off the stringy fibres on the outside or leave them on, depending on what you like the look of best.

This is the website i used when making mine - http://www.gorge.org/fish/coconut.shtml

Sorry to hear that you lost your krib, it's always disheartening, but atleast you still have one.

I do have a camera but the eggs are in such an awkward place to get photos, i'll wait until i have some movement in there to try at snap a few pics!

Went to the cave earlier an...OMG...where have the eggs gone?! What do I, the pessimist think - 'they've eaten them :(' but wait....

wrigglers!!!! yay, just visible are a few little shivering blobs. i think mommy krib had hearded them to an area of the cave thats even harder to see, but i caught a glimse of at least 2 or 3.

Question - what will the little blobs eat? Will the mother feed them?
