Hello,
my name is Caroline, I'm in England, and I need some advice!
I joined your forum because you all seem to be a friendly lot.

I bought my first tank in March this year, and its proving to be a lot of fun but an immense timewaster (I'm supposed to be working but cant stop looking)!

My problem (1st of many I'm certain  ) is that I was sold a 'plec' but I have no clue as to his/hers type. Neither does the proprietor! *thumbsups to him- surely he should know.....
The fish has an almost custard yellow appearance with greenish stripes along its body. Doesnt come out much - night time apparently - so am hoping he/she/it is feeding properly.

A tradesman said his friend who keeps just plecs has heard of one called a yellow prince but I have had not a jot of luck searching under that name. If anyone has the slightest clue for me I would be eternally grateful?

Truthfully there are hundreds of types of plecos, so much that they gave up naming them with names, but with an L number. Check out plecos.com and try to find it, hopefully you'll at least get an L number and maybe a common name.

Goodness, thankyou so very much for the website links, I will take a look.

An 'L' number? - well ok but it sounds like they have to pass a test! Poor dears, always a little pressure in life isn't there.....

There can also be a lot of color changes between when they are young and when they get older...so who knows :) The good news is that MOST plecos enjoy about the same diet...so as long as you have some driftwood in the tank, maybe give him some cucumber or other fiberous veggies from time to time, drop in some algae tablets at night for him to find...he'll probably be ok. When you do see him you can keep an eye on his tummy section and notice if its sucked in or if its bulging out a little...bulging would be better than sucked in.
