yellow tang white bar

can someone tell me a little more about that white bar that is in the middle of the body on the yellow tang. I did some searches but could not find much info. Is it bad? I notice on some tangs it is more prominent that on others. Sometimes it almost looks faded and can't be seen.

I've seen the same thing on my yellow tang, It's not as noticable as when I first got him. So maybe it's an age thing?

Who knows, my tang is pretty big - i think it has started to fade a little more. So maybe it is a stress thing?

i know that yellow tangs have a white defensive spine near their anal fin so perhaps what you are seeing is the bone mass (spinal column perhaps?) from which this grows...ive goggled a few pictures and they all seem to have a lighter color there...

what size of a tank do you have him in? how old is it? what other fish are in it?

The white bar is stress marking. Nothing to be worried about. It probably is very visible in the morning when you turn on lights and at night.
