I finally have Brachardi eggs. I thought at one point that the male ate them, but then I seen he just moved them. It's so cool because when I look at the eggs, you can see little tails that are sticking out of the egg. It's so darn cute. But I do have a question....Does anyone know how long it takes for the eggs to hatch? Also, after the eggs hatch, can I put my Green Terror back in the tank with them? I had to take him out and put him in a dinky 20gal. tank and I think he's unhappy:( becuase he used to be in the 50gal. tank with the Brachardis. I would like to move the Brachardis and the babies once they hatch, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.
Anyways, any info is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Jeanna

Not sure about hatching rates of N. Brachadi. Have to ask Orion or Taffy about that. But no if you want to keep the fry the Green Terror cannot go back into the tank until the fry are mature. I would move the N. Brachadi fry after they become free swimming and put them in the 20gal, and move the GT back to the big tank.

Yep

Yep, that's the plan, but I was hoping to keep them all in the 50gal. but don't wanna take the chance of loosing the babies. I really would like to know how long it takes to hatch though. I'm so darn impatiant, it's sickning. I WANT BABIES NOW:D
Anyways, thanx for the reply,
Jeanna

N Brichardi make Excellent parents, they will tend to their young for months and will take care of several spawns at the same time. If the tank becomes overcrowded with fry, the parents recognize this and won't lay so many eggs on the next spawn, or rarely they will eat their young to make room for the next batch. They fry are small and grow slowly but will do well if fed baby brine shrimp and finely crushed flake food.
Jeanna i'm guessing that your GT is not fully matured
or it would have been giving the brichardi a torrid
time before now, if i were you, i wouldn't put the
GT back in with the brichardi although it will need a larger tank than the 20g that you have it in at the moment, best of luck with your new additions
;)

Jeanna, congrats on the spawn of brichardi. First spawns may be as low as 20-30 but with experienced adults the spawns can reach over 100. Larvae hatch in 2-3 days (at 26oC) and the fry are free swimming after 5-6 days. You are fortunate to have seen the eggs as they are normally laid in a remote location, do they have a cave to spawn in?

Cichlid-man and conaquavict are right in what they say about your GT, it really has no place with brichardi who are best kept in a species tank. Brichardi are very territorial once they have young to defend, which means they will drive away or kill anything that threatens their young or die in the attempt. I'm not being dramatic, you'll have deaths if you mix those fish.

No need for me to speak much, the nail has already been hit on the head. :D

You are very lucky to have seen the eggs Jeanna. During my pairs' first spawn I didnt even know anything was up untill I saw the free swiming fry!

Wow

Thanx for all the great responses from everyone. That's exactlly why I ended up getting the Brachardis, I think they're such an interesting fish.
They have a slate cave thing and that's where the eggs are. And actually the GT was in the tank with them while the eggs were there already. It was cool because the GT stayed on his side of the tank, and the Brachardis were cool, they stayed on there side.
My GT is one bad-a*s fish. Actually he was the top dog in the tank, until I noticed the eggs, that's why I took him out. definitly don't want to loose any babies. I love them already.
I have slate in the corner of the tank, that has a cave, and they laid the eggs where you can see from the side of the tank. I gotta say maybe 20 - 30 eggs. Like I said, you can actually see the tails moving around. So it is very exciting to be watching this process.
I'm gonna put the Brachadis in the smaller tank when the babies are big enough, then put the GT back where he belongs. I really feel bad having him in such a small tank, but until the babies are big enough, that's where he's gonna stay.
Well, I guess that's it (I think)
Again, thanx for all the responses. I enjoy reading them.
