Hey thanks for all the great advice in starting a new tank! I have this close friend who has (well had until her African Clawed frog ate it) this yo yo loach. I thought it looked really cute and I did some reaserch on it. I read that they need at least a 35 gallon tank. But my friend had it in a 12 gallon, and it did fine. Does anyone know the minmum tank size for the yo yo loach for it remain happy and healthy? And, is there anything that it shouldn't be mixed with in a tank? Thanks!

35 gallons is probably what the full sized adult yo-yo loach needs, considering these animals grow 8"-10" and are highly territorial, and will attack other fish that mess in its territory.

I've kept baby loaches with dwarf gourmis, opaline gourmis, and some SA cichlids, or other top dwelling fish that don't mess too much with a fish's territory on the bottom of the tank.

Hmm...that's pretty small for a loach then. I know some botia get pretty big. We had this one ret-tailed blue botia in the shop that was easy eight inches, and a mean sucker too. Some clown loaches also get pretty big. Hey, but if a yo-yo stays small, then maybe it is a good loach for a small tank, if it doesn't take over the entire thing as territory.

I've done my fair share of reading up on them, and from what I've read they usually get 4" and are good for community tanks, and great snail eaters. Mine loved freeze dried blood worms, and never did anything to both the other fish.. Very friendly.
