With a minor reference to the recent post by 'deepfathom'...

How would you remove a detergent from something? I've seen post after post and video after video claiming that soap is bad. I understand that it leaves a film that doesn't just rinse away, and I understand that you should never use it on anything that goes in your tank because "it will kill your fish"... its practically a mantra.

What I have not seen, however, is someone explaining how you would go about cleaning soap or detergent off of something, and whether it's impossible to remove it from certain things. For example: tank walls, decorations, plastic plants, air hoses, or silicone.

No, I did not use soap, and I don't plan on it. My point here is intended more towards the purchase of used tanks or equipment - you don't know what a previous owner might have put in their tank.

With this in mind, how would you go about preparing a previously owned tank?
