just a quick word of warning from one who has suffered...
if you are planning a tank...do make the effort to install real plants...
i have wasted time and money on plastic...
and they are no substitute for real... :)

the important point i want to make is...
FIT THE UNDER-GRAVEL HEATER CABLE AND SLOW-RELEASE FERTS FIRST...
BEFORE WATER AND FISH ARRIVE...

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...i have done it the wrong way round...
and tried to install this kit with fish and water present...
wot a monster of a job...i've aged visibly... :):)

i nearly binned 90 quids[imp] worth of plants in frustration...then...
i calmed myself down...and after about seven hours work...all is well... :):):)

go for the real-deal...and do it at the very start of your adventure... sheesh... *twirlysmi

Undergravel heaters have come a ways in recent years.

I'd never recommend a beginner to start out with live plants. They're another variable, complexity, "level" of experience.

If a beginner starts out with a stocked and live-planted tank and makes it work they're either extremely studious, intelligent and attentive or very, VERY lucky.
