My 5 Zebra Danios were getting along fine, but then my female (the others are younger but I definitely have 2 females) started chasing all of my other ZDs around the tank. She wasn't nipping them, but it was an intense chase. Overnight, (literally) everything changed. She was relaxed but one of my males (positive it's a male) created a "territory" in my largest terra cotta pot. He won't let any ZD come near or in it, but he's fine with my Neons and my Kuhlis. I also noticed a small dip in the gravel in the terra cotta pot. Has he done this, or might it have been my Kuhllis?? I've never heard of this behavior and idk what it is. Can anyone help me solve my mystery??

It's not in their nature to do that. When the female is ready to spawn, she will be ready to pop. Here's a normal female, a ready to spawn female, and a video of a pair mating.

Normal female (looks like mine)

Female ready to spawn (never use flash on a camera with fish)

Here's what the pair look like when they spawn (ZD pick a mate for life)

I was also going to suggest spawning... nm then.
My danios were always pretty aggressive, chasing each other and the other fish. I am down to one due to all the aggression (they ran themselves ragged, even though I had a school of 7), but don't really want to get any more... I feel bad for my lone fish, but I can't find anyone that wants danios locally...

Lol, mine swim up in the net. I'm like, dang you!! Get out!! XD I have 4 normal and 1 longfin (who gets picked on the most). I'm thinking about getting some Glo-Fish from Walmart. I don't want to get them from walmart, but I'd rather pay $5 for 1 instead of $10, buy 2 get 1 free. Yikes.

Yeah, they are SOO hard to catch when I try to get them with the net. :p
Hello; I use two nets most of the time and always when catching zebras. Zebras are quick and in constant motion. I do not think of them as aggressive in the sense that they are trying to do damage, but they will chase and dart. While I have several together when possible, there have been times when I get down to only one or two. The lone fish will still be active.
Once zebras mature there will be breeding behavior fairly often. They are egg scattering fish and the eggs are not sticky. When trying to save eggs I put a couple of mature females with a few males in a homemade breeding trap. It is a glass frame with a nylon window screen material bottom. The eggs fall thru the openings in the screen. This keeps the zebras from eating the eggs.
A shoal of zebras will chase and mate with vigor in a community tank. The ones that are not mating will join the chase to eat the eggs as they are being shed. I cannot say that I have noted any damage from zebras over time.

Well, I've just noticed my Zebras spawning this morning. Geez. I have 1 big female (only I didn't think that she was ready to spawn, but she looks skinnier), her mate (a yellowish tinted male), two other females that are starting to plump up (including my longfin, yay!!), and another male. In total, 3F:2M. I'll try to post a video of them, that I took at 5 am this morning. Hopefully my Kuhlis will get most of the eggs and get a growth spurt. :p It's planted and they're spawning in the terra cotta pot and the java moss. Plus (cuz of my smallest Banded Kuhlis) I have mesh around the filter intake, so with the food quality they get (I think I kinda conditioned the parents by feeding them frozen food) I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the fry survive the hungry mouths. I so have a 2.5g that I can use to spawn them in. Conviniently, it has marbles on the bottom. XD

Yeah, I have 2 long-fins, too, and they are really fast! One minute they are here, the next, over there.
Next time I get fish, I will have to watch the behavior of the fish before I get them. :p

Okay, new problem. One of my black mollies is covered in a light layer of fuzz. It's not really all over, but in little pieces here and there. She is acting normal, but she looks plain sick. She looks worse than yesterday, too! My mom said to stop putting things in the water, but I have some anti-fungal stuff that I am itching to use. I could sneak it in the water when she isn't around, but the only problem would be the smell. That stuff WREAKS!!

Hello; the fuzz sound like it could be fungus. Can you isolate the fish? I have sometimes held fish in a net in the tank. Fungus, as I seem to recall, is not necessarily going to be very contagious. I have had individual fish become covered with it without any others becoming infected. The isolation will at least give the sick fish some peace and keep the others from pecking at it and possibly being exposed.

Fungus will kill a LOT of your fish. I got it once and it killed one of my Otos. Stupid Guppy...I'm never buying another one again!!! Plus, the medicine could be harmful to your fry, so separate the molly in a nother tank and treat it. I had 1 Guppy (a female that I bred) survive the fungus, but it still took a large toll. All the Guppies except for 2 that I bought died, my Oto died, a Platy died, and my 2 Bettas died. Idk if my Bettas died from the fungus, but I know that my other fish did and I removed them immediantly.

Anywho, here's a video of my Zebras. Sorry for the horrible quality. It was taken on my phone right before I had to leave for school, 6 am.

....Nevermind. My phone is being stupid and not loading to youtube. Brb, I'll fix it....

You use the word "stupid" frequently, but in spite of how we sometimes feel, inanimated things can't be stupid, only animated things can perform stupid acts. The reason for the stupidity need to be analyzed. LOL

That one crazy fry (i'm not sure if it is the same one or not) is bugging my mollies again! Grrr, that little....

I managed to sneak in some of the fungus treatment to the molly, and tha rest of the fish look fine. She is doing better, although that crazy little fry isn't helping any. (he might be eating the fungus off her, though... I hope it doesn't affect the fry!)
