What are your thoughts on Zebra Plecos. I saw some at the LFS yesterday and thought they looked very spiffy. Does anyone know if they are hard to keep. I would really like to get one but they are a bit on the pricey side and I would rather not kill it. Thanks! :)

mmm i heard they are some what hardy. just feed them a varied diet, with lettuce, wafers, etc., and keep the parameters (ph, kh, amonia, etc)and temp stable and the should do fine. they need driftwood to munch on for nutrients and they need hiding spots.

yes they are spiffy, pretty snazy, eh? i would get some if i had the $$$.

you can do a google search for them or look 'em up in the MFT freshwater profiles section. :)

I thought I found a good deal on some at aqua bid and then realized that they are actually BLACK zebra Plecos. Not what I wanted. I lfs have some here for $120...but that is a bit pricey for me. Oh well. Hopefully I can find one that is cheaper. They are quite lovely.

email me, I have some great articles on my computer that I can email to you. The articles are very detailed on the thier diet, environment, and breeding. You could also do a search on this page, or aquaria central and find the download link.

I would love to get my hands on a ZEBRA how much does your LFS sell them for? will they ship? PLEASE let me know. As far as care, they actually are easy to care for but if you are buying them to take care a algae they do not really like it. They would rather have some pellets ie shrimp etc.

Supply and demand. Size, time of year, local demand, whether there's a breeder and what the markt will stand all drive the price. There are pricier plecs out there too. Does anyone know what a wholesaler charges for these - I know it's quite a lot, but I haven't seen a freshwater list recently.
