iv been noticing the water color chaning from clear to yellow...

this has ever happen to my other tank.

i thought it is because the water is room temp (i still need to get a heater)
and the main reason is that the rock was somewat uncured...
but then again so was my other rocks...

i might have to do a 50% water change...

but this is natural right?

This is totally normal. I am amusing that you don't have a skimmer running or even have carbon! It is totally normal. You don't necessarily have to do a 50% water change, just do a regular 25% water change every week and the water should stay clear. But usually by the end of the week it will turn some what yellow.

you don't want it too yellow. water change would be ideal. I usually do water changes once a week at about 20 percent per change.

thanks its just my first time experiencing this. lol i thought someone peed in my tank *twirlysmi

i was acutally planning to run active carbon in one of my tanks.

is there a big disadvantage in using active carbon in SW tanks?

im planning to use it once i build my sump. i'll stick the bag between the baffles. or i could create a small filtering chamber.

You can use Activated carbon with out any major problems. Activated carbon is known to deplete essential elements to an extent. It is also known to leech phosphates into the tank if you don't use the right kind. You can use it for a few hours to clear up the tank.

yeah i heard about that...people mainly use it to remove medication like copper or something like that.

my main tank is just a FOWLR so elements arent really needed.

but i'll forget about the carbon if this water polishing filter pad helps.
