Welcome to MFT.

Is this your only tank?

Many people opt to immediately remove the fry to a growout tank, but in my limited number of cichlid spawns (kribs, cons, now salvini) I have found it best to keep the fry in with the adults (the theory being that they will grow quicker this way) until they hit about the 1/2" to 3/4" mark (or until you see the parents preparing for spawning again---i.e. clearing out a spawning site, etc.).

At this point, I then remove the fry to a smaller growout tank. Obviously the fry are removed immediately if the parents start eating them (which they typically will do at some point).

In with the parents, feeding of the fry won't be as tricky, because the pair will chew up the larger food and spit out a whole bunch for the fry to eat. Still, I find it best to supplement with a powdered fry food (I use Hikari 'First Bites').

Just curious---how large are the acaras right now?

Hope this helps.

Yeah, without a growout tank the fry's chances of survival diminish quite drastically. When the parents are ready to breed again the fry are usually kicked to the curb and/or killed. I'd get them out of the tank if possible when they reach the .5 inch + mark.

Finely crushed flakes will suit the fry fine for feeding.

So I guess the acara offspring will go into the fry tank that currently has all your livebearers in it? Or in the community tank? Have you figured this part out already?

Im sorry about this but i have a question about blue acaras, because i think i might wont one.Do you have to do frequent water changes because there excretions cloud the water?
Frequent? If frequent is the same as other normal waterchanges. The more frequent the better....as with any fish.

If you are looking for a low maintenance fish, stick to something like convicts in the cichlid world.

Hope you don't plan on putting this with your jewels, five bar, texas and whatever else you have in there.

acaras

wow!so many replies!was going to put them in fry tank but no space as yet as would mean putting guppy and molly fry in with acaras and i think they would end upnas live food,
Icant put the fry in my community tank,i have a tank full of psyco fish that will not tolerate ANY new additions, especially not babies!
I do water changes every sunday but on a hectic week wen i do it a few days late ive not noticed water getting cloudy.
And lastly.i would gladly share my fry with anyone on mft, unfortunately im in the uk!i only jus got back online but will update my profile v soon.sam
