Hi everyone, I just had to post a few pics of my 3 new Severums, sorry for the quality, they're still a little skittish, but you get the idea.

The largest one is about 1" long

What do ya' think?

They look good :)

A 55gal is too small for an adult pair of severums IMO, but it makes a good growout for them. I had my pair in a 55gal until the male hit about 7" and the female about 4" - they looked way too cramped for my liking, so they were moved into a 75gal.

This thought has crossed my mind, I will up size the tank at some point, But I hoping to have these guys in the 55g for about a year (longer if possible), do you think they'll outgrow it before then?

Yep, a year should be okay. Technically, they can survive in a 55gal for life, but I personally just felt that they seemed much too cramped once they started to get large, and feel the 75gal they're in now is absolutely the smallest I'd keep them in. As for growth rate, really depends on your situation, but I found that mine were what I would call slow-growing. Most fish grow quickly as babies, but once your guys hit about the 4" mark or so, they'll slow down significantly I think. Both of mine did anyway.

When kept in a 55 their growth is noticably slower, if given room they will hit full grown within a yr. Keeping them in a 55 in a yrs time they will be about 6-7 inches.

Update, with some pics

Well, I've had these guys for just about a month now, boy have they grown....

These two appear to be spending a good amount of time together....I'm not going to say "pair" yet, but I'm hoping. Shame they aren't both striped, the other one he/she is more green with subtle black marks

Here he/she is again, this one seems to like the camera *thumbsups

This last pic is of the "Tank Boss" He/she is nearly twice as big as the other Sevs, and is horribly aggressive.....to EVERYTHING in the tank, including my ultra passive Dojo Loaches. If the above 2 end up pairing, this one's going back to the LFS. (He's the least pretty anyway)

Holy cow! They're huge compared to before. Only ~8 more inches to go!

That striped one is gorgeous, but if it does end up pairing with the non-striped one, it'll be curious to see how the fry turn out. You're really making me want green severums! Maybe I'll have room for them in a bigger place by the time yours get around to spawning and you've got some extra juvies on your hands, eh? ;)

I know it's a little early yet, but do you have a growout tank in mind for later?

I've got that 40 breeder standing by (actually I'm in the process of re-sealing it, but it will be ready in time I'm sure). My brother in law is DIY'ing a stand for it too. (in trade for some Con & Sev fry *thumbsups )
