I was just looking at the fish in the community tank and I noticed that 2 of my loaches were dancing together. What I mean is they were side by side touching and swimming together. Then they swam in a circle around each other and were side by side again. Is this some kind of water ballet? I also noticed that one is very fat. The fat one isnt the one that was dancing but one of the dancing ones did go to the fat one and did the same with that one. Ive read they dont breed in aquaria so what could this possibly be? Any ideas?

Thanks Lotus. Do they also like to play dead? I noticed that sometimes they seem to lay on the rocks sideways and when one comes along they pop up and start chasing after each other. I thought the thing was dying and was getting armed with net in hand. I kept looking at them for like a half hour and it seemed fine. Just wondering..

Do check out loaches.com for more info. Certainly the loach dance is referred to often - it's quite common with a number of different species. They like as much company as you can provide and will often swim together.

I have heard of clown loaches lying on their side, and scaring their owners. Not sure what sp you have though.

i have heard of clown loaches breeding. the book i have says that they dont but it has been done. the babies are said to be less vulnerable to whitespot. perhaps due to evolution(if you get what i mean) i know for a fact that it can be done so you might be the lucky 1 of 1000.

what i mean is... if clown loaches can im sure that yoyo's can too =]

Same thing happened to me. I added 3 more white clouds and I guess they were breeding or making a pecking order. So it must be normal.
