Crazy kribs

The Atlanta Area Aquarium Association hosted Ted Judy last night for our May meeting.
Ted is an expert on pelvichromis.

He told us several things about kribs I just had to pass along.

The albino form of Pelvi. pulcher is the only known albino vertebrate where the albino gene is dominate.

Some species of pelv's have up to 8 different color patterns depending on their mood and situation. ( Defending nest, attracting mate, telling fry to hide...)

Sex is fry is influences by water pH.
But the range is different for each species.

Looks like I am going to have to set a few krib tanks up.

That is most interesting to me. So its kinda like Gator/turtle eggs and temp. Would be fun to experiment and test that out.

Yes, it is a very similar situation to many species of reptiles and sex being determined by egg incubation temperature.
