i have 6 yellow labs 2 male 4 female, a male and female peter davis, and 2 blue dolphins. I was wanting to know if anyone knows how to breed them or if there is some special trick to get them into the breeding mood. they have plenty of cover with the driftwood plants and rock. so that shouldn't be a problem. I know some north american fish if u drop the temp in the tank then rise it again will trigger mating but I'm still a little ignorant with the africans. and help would be apreciated. thanks

I would really like to have peter davis babies at the moment. my lfs will give me $20 per fish if I can get them to breed. and I think that may be my first step into breeding fish for a living. So if anyone could give me some tips on how to get any of my fish to start breeding that would be helpful. so if anyone knows how to jump start the breeding cycle I'd love to hear it.

If you really want to go hardcore and focus on breeding certain species i'd setup a species tank. That way they can be at peace and breed easier, you could control the enviornment easier, and you could save a lot more babies.

Whats your pH at? I've heard raising that to rift lake level helps. Make sure you have a good Male/Female ratio as well.

One other major thing that can play a role is the diet. Another reason why a species tank would be great. You could feed your peacocks some brine shrimp, blood worms, krill (Though not a lot, can cause bloat even in peacocks) without the Mbuna getting much of it. Something like bloodworms only once a week or so might work. From my experience, Mbuna will out compete peacocks for food all the time...seperating them may be the best way to watch their diet.

I see you only have 2 peacocks. Try and get 1-2 more females. Peacocks like breeding in trios or groups with 1 male and a few females. This also cuts down on his aggression and beating of 1 female and spreads it out a little.

Well I feed enough so all of the fish get plenty of food. and I give 2 frozen brine shrimp blocks once a week and the peacocks get most of it. the others focus on the loose floaters and the peacocks focus on the whole block. I plan on getting a few more females and doing a speicies tank but not sure when I will be able to do that. I was just going to use a breeding net for the babies once I notice her spitting them out.
