I can't take pictures of fish to save my life, but it gets the point across. No flash used since it kills any color the fish has. Its about 3.5in right now, picked it up from work after it was on deaths door from being beat up by a JD and RD combo.

Its dining on some krill.

Katie217, its also known as a mayan cichlid or false red terror. More often then not actually from my experience and what i've read...most "red terrors" for sale are indeed uros. There are some minute differences in differentiating them, and red terrors actually become red haha. It should hit the 12" mark, makes a great 'wet pet' although they are super aggressive.

Nice pickup, Hamburgler!
How do you tell a young Uro apart from a true festae? Is it based on the size of the blotch on the caudal peduncle---i.e. blotch on Uro takes up the whole area, whereas the blotch on festae only goes halfway up its body?

Anyway, I thought I read that somewhere over on cichlid-forum, but I might be remembering completely wrong, lol. Just thought you might know offhand.

Should make for an interesting wet-pet, that's for sure. Any plans on harvesting live-feeders for him?

BV...you are right on the blotch. Another way to tell is the first two bars (at the front) form a Y on true festaes.

No plans for feeders as of yet...working at a fish shop will offer whatever i need. Thanks for the comments.

Ah, yes---now that you mention it I remember reading about that as well. ;)
I went through a brief period where I was leaning toward getting a female festae for my 55 gal. tank, but I decided to postpone the idea until I'm in a larger place with bigger tanks to accommodate a pair perhaps.

Just out of curiosity, is there any way to sex your Uro as a juvie or do you need to wait until you can vent him/her? What size of tank have you got for it?
