We bought some fish a while back, there were two kinds in the tank in the store, JD's, and some other cichlid, but it's scientific name only was displayed and I can't remember it......DOH......

So, from these not so good pics could you try to Id it for me, thany.

Oh yeah, just to let you know, the JD's were going for £5 each, and this other fish was priced at £15 each. We asked for two JD's and he scooped us one of each.

Thankys.

Looks like a type of Acara maybe? Not 100% on an ID though, anymore pics? How big is it?

Here are a few that resemble what i see:
-Laetacara curviceps/Laetacara dorsigera - Dwarf Flag Cichlid/Redbreast acara
-Aequidens portalegrensis - Port acara
-Aequidens metae (a streach maybe?) - Twin Spot Flag Cichlid/Yellow acara
-Hypselecara temporalis (Another streach?) - Chocolate cichlid

No, not a Choco (H. temporalis). I agree with Matt that its an acara of some kind, but a better picture would certainly help nail it down. From the second picture, I'd say its a Port acara.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, you helped us find out what fish it is. It's a Cichlasoma dimerus.

Ta for all your help :D

I just can't find it's common name now :(

As far as I know, it doesn't have a common name. Not every fish has one...basically, a fish has to actually be common in the hobby (which C. dimerus is not) to have a common name.
