Hi,

I saw white spot developing on my fish and so went out and bought some treatment. I have treated my tanks as per instructions and in 3 days need to repeat the treatment. do i after 6 days place activated charcol back in my filter to remove the meds?

You can do that, or just do a large water change. Be careful, since I know you have plants in there, the meds may hurt the plants and/or the snails. Some fish don't respond well to meds either, I know otos, snails, plecos will not react well. The best method of ridding a tank of white spot is to slowly raise the temperature to 85, then leave it there for 7 days or more. Ich can't live in those temps, so it will just die off.

ok, interesting will raise temp today (my heater has no deg readings its guess work..) well the treatment i have has instruct on how to keep tets safe, so i only used 20 drops per 8l, works out to 6ml per 15G...

Personally I'd be very reluctant to raise the tank temp. in conjunction with the meds you said you've already put in there. If you're wanting to go the heat + salt route, I'd strongly recommend doing a large water-change to rid the tank of the meds...maybe even stick a new carbon insert in there overnight to help with this...and then begin the heat/salt treatment in the morning. It will be much easier on the fish this way.

That should be just fine.
But just so you know, you'll need it up to at least 32 degrees C (which is approx. 85 degrees F, if I'm not mistaken) for purposes of getting rid of the ich.

I had ich in my tank a couple of months ago, and did the salt+heat treatment after trying meds, meds didn't work, but the salt+heat had it gone (invisible to the eye) in 3 days, it is said to continue the treatment for at least 3 days after visible spots are gone, or for 10 days regardless, which is what I did. I have heard , and found myself, that this method works more often and better than any meds you can buy. Good luck

oh, another thing, make sure you have good oxygenation in your tank because raising the temp lowers the o2 level, but Big Vine is right you've got to raise that temp to about 85
