Red Oscars are VERY rare. You won't be finding a 'true blood red' oscar in a pet store. Be ware of DYED fishes! They do happen with Oscars too...

In a 75G I would do an Oscar. No tank mates. If you MUST have tankmates I suggest a trio of Silver Dollars. Just a reminder tho... Anything small enough to fit into an Oscars mouth... EVentually will! So sto k tank-mates appropriately. Be sure if you DO silver dollars you get bigger ones. Oscars will outgrow them and they will possibly become lunch :)

LOTS of filtration is required for an Oscar tank as are frequent water changes. You cannot go bi-weekly on an oscars tank care. In my 55g I currently do 2-3 50-70% water changes a week. Nitrates climb quickly which is why I suggested an oscar only tank.

i was waiting for another oscar lover to find this thread! lol

yes i know that they are rare =[[ but im going to ask my boss tomorrow if there is a chance of him being able to order me a small one in the future...(a perk of working in a fish store lol)

i was planning on putting two filters on the tank..probably two emperor 400s

and we'll see about the tank mates...

:) Try Oscarfish.com :: Home They will be able to point you in the, direction of a red oscar. I believe they are not available in the US yet... I could, and probably am, wrong. worth a shot tho. If they are available they are in 'private' collections and for private trade or trade within the hobby. My LFS has never even heard of a blood oscar, neither has her suppliers. Or their farmers... So yeah... And she is able to order me anything I can think of normally!

My Fav. stalker! I figured you would ATLEAST have come by the shop to say HI! Sheesh...

Oh and here is a pic to go along with my other post. These are some of the first pictures that people from the US have seen. These are owned by a guy in another country and Some say it is a creative PaintShop pic while others agree that they are real. I personally believe they are red but to this extent? To each their own :) (Notice the 'pink' hue on the back filter close to the water line is all I am going to say!)

and i think that the oscar above is a true blood red.

and one question i heard that they lose their color as they grow? anyone know if this is true? and how much of the red they lose?

thanks!!

Tom you should have came in and said HELLO! My new bristlenose pair will be here next week :D Heeheehee... I am SO excited... Even have the former saltie 29g at home set up and ready for these guys... I think I may add an angel from the Office tank in there and call it good :) My Trio of angels are starting to pick on each other (I knew this was going to happen) so I am going to leave the biggest pair here at work and take the yellow/ghost or whatever you want to call it home.
