More Light

its ME again!

I currently have 1.5watts / gal. in my tank which i know now is concidered 'low light' and was wondering what my options were for increasing the watts without spending a lot of money.

my canopy has two 18" - 15 watt flourecents.

can i just buy 18" bulbs that put out more watts?

Your fixture has a max wattage, and the lamps are probably already maxing the wattage out.

You could go with something like this:
Compact Fluorescent Aquarium Lighting: Dual Satellite Compact Fluorescent Fixtures

The 24" version has dual 65W lamps, that's a fair amount of light.

P.S. It's just a pet issue of mine, but "bulb" is a shape. "Lamp" is something that emits light...

I work in the airport lighting industry... I had the word "bulb" driven from my brain long ago (unless you're talking about a bulb shaped lamp, in which case it's acceptable).

i would get rid of the regular fluorescents and get the compact ones if you are planning on growing plants, i personally think the reg ones are crap and just for lighting an aquarium for aesthetic appeal
