fish problem

Hey Everyone,

I havn't been on here for a long time. Last time I was on here I was moving and well lost about half of the fish in my tank. Really bumed about that. Basically the temperature in the tank went really high and thats how they all died. Since then i brought all the remaining fish back to the fish store and set up the 55 gallon with more cichlids. (after re-establishing the tank out, i cleaned it and did a big cycle on the tank) It is now being occupied by 3 Msobo males and 2 females, 1 demasoni and 1 red tail shark. (plus a pleco). I have had them in the tank now for about 3 months so they are starting to mature and I have noticed something weird on one of my females. I bought both the females from the same batch aswell as all the males from the same batch (different batches for both). Basically one of the females has the weird black dots on her, I am not sure what they are if anyone could maybe identify it or know what it is and how to fix it. It could be some sort of fungus?

a fungus only affecting the one fish?

Good point, but that fish may have a weak imune system. The fungus could slowly begin to build in your tank the rest of the fish might get it?

Could just be the natural colouring comming through (could be a "low quality" fish)

I dont think its a fungus, i think its just how its going to end up looking, like bad inheritance or something, u know how cichlids can look different sometimes?

any way of preventing that or is that just the way the fish is?? its strange because it wasn't like that when I picked her up from the LFS

Yeah, i get how cichlids can look different, just bothered by it i guess. ehh.. take the good with the bad.

Well...what I can tell you is that those aren't msobo. If anything, they're saulosi.

i find really that both the species are the same... or atleast that is what my research has brough me to. i have purchased a "msobo" with my last batch of fish and looked just like the ones I have now. If you know what the differences are could you let me know?

Two reasons mostly. 1. body shape is very Pseudotropheus. 2. male msobos don't look like your dominant male, or any other fish I can see in your tank shot.

Well...what I can tell you is that those aren't msobo. If anything, they're saulosi.

Agreed.

About the black splotches. Not sure really. Had them on some of my fish before, all i can equate them to is "peppering" in fish like Discus.
