I'm starting fresh with 5 juvenile marble angelfish in a 38 gallon tank in the hopes of getting a breeding pair.

'Emerald'

'Turq' (short for 'Turquoise')

'Fang'

'Blaze'

'Smoky'

Thanks guys!
I really like all of them, but I'd have to say Fang is my favorite thus far.
You stole my idea BigV! I am getting ready to make a journal and saw yours! :p
You should get one going too!
I've never bred angels before, so I could use all the info. I can get my hands on. :D

Beautiful marbles! No doubt you will get a pair. What will you do with the one that doesn't pair up?
I will only be keeping one pair.
The rest will be traded-in at the LFS.

I've pretty well decided to go ahead and add some tankmates...nothing fancy...just some tetras and cories. I'll update on the new arrivals later today or tomorrow.

Thanks, Tom.
It's just plain old regular black gravel. You can see in the pics that some of it has faded---some of it was from an older batch I had in another tank, and the paint appears to have gradually dissolved away. Hopefully it won't all end up turning white anytime soon!

Thanks guys. :)

Fighterfish...yup, I'll probably sell/trade-in any fry I manage to growout.
IDunnoWhy...3 of my 5 original marble hatchets committed suicide, so I decided to house the 2 survivors in my 5 gal. tank to keep it cycled.

Also...I added a bunch of orange Von Rio tetras to my angelfish setup last night! :D

Made some changes to add more depth to the tank...

I think I'm going to stick with this ^^^ arrangement.

At first I thought about doing the following...
-anubias on the far righthand corner to be replaced with an amazon sword (or an ozelot sword?)
-larger of the two crypts (on the right) to be replaced with a red melon sword (or green one?)
-anubias on the left to be replaced with an amazon sword (or an ozelot sword?)
-smaller of the two crypts (on the left) to be replaced with a red melon sword (or green one?)

But then it was suggested elsewhere that I simply go with oak leaf litter, which I am going to do---just need to wait another 7-8 months to go collecting the leaves in the fall. Question is---do I still add a few swordplants? I'm thinking a taller one in the back right would really help to cover up the heater and filter intake. Or would one look better in the spot where that large crypt is? I dunno...maybe I won't add any.

silver dollars...angels will spawn wherever they spawn, lol.
However, I'm hoping it'll be on a swordplant leaf (if I decide to go with some plants in there), then I can just cut that one leaf off. That or on a piece of driftwood---I'll just pull the whole piece out and tend to the eggs in my 20 gal. long.

Thanks for the comments!

The rearrangement looks very nice and it looks like it adds some more hiding places in there. I like it either way really but the second does seem to add more depth to the tank like you said

Lookin' good, BV. One of your guys (Fang) looks just like my marbled...

Speaking of, mine hit a major growth spurt lately. He used to be smaller than my two kois, and all of the sudden he shot up in size and now dwarfs them -- seems to get bigger daily!

Has anyone else had this happen with their angels -- fairly steady/slow-ish growth, and then boom - growth spurt?

My angels laid eggs on Amazon sword leaves several times. I'd highly recommend them for angel tanks. Angels will usually choose a flat, near vertical, smooth surface. I usually kept a piece of slate in angel tanks. I've had them lay on the glass and on filter intakes, which isn't very convenient for me :)
