Ok, I'm looking into the future here...but in a while, I'm re-doing my 55GL tank. I'm doing sever lighting upgrade, CO2, and lots of plants. I know I want some small fish, like neons or something like it.

My question is: Is there any type of Chichlid that I can get, that wont uproot my pants or munch on my little guys? I really like the looks of them, and I'd love to have one. I've seen that they are usually kept in tanks with lots of rocks, instead of plants...so if this is a problem please let me know.

I was just hoping to use one as my "Centerpiece" fish.

Some cichlids are able to do well in a planted tank. I know that angels, apistos, and rams all do good in planted tanks. As far as them not munching on your little guys I'm not 100% sure which ones would be good for a tank with the smaller ones. I have been kinda looking for a dwarf cichlid that would be ok with plants and also not bother my smaller fish for when I begin to stock my tank.

If your getting neons then you probably shouldnt get angels cause they will eventually be able to eat them, apistos and rams would work though. If you also have ALOT of fish on the bottom of the tank then rams or apistos might not work either. It really depends on what else you are going to put in the tank. Whats the rest of your stocking list? In my 55 i used to keep 2 bolivian rams [pair], 4 small angels[ looking for a pair], 3 otos, and 16 cherry barbs. If u keep something bigger than neons then angels or an angel should be fine. It really depends what u like.

Hmm, glad to hear that an angel would work..I was kinda leaning that way!

Edit: I think I'll go with the Half Black Angel...maybe 10 neons, or some other tetra. Probably stick one of my gourami's in there. One of my sharks. Probably 1 more type of fish. not sure what
