Help me identify my new fish!

I new to the forum and I am very happy to have found it. My wife and I purchased a fish at our local fish store that was a trade in. I don't know if it's male or female nor do we know what tha heck it is. It's about 10" long and gets along well with all the others in the tank. We have 1 large oscar(8"), a small oscar(4"), 2 arowannas(14"), a redtail cat(8") a large pleco(16"), 3 tin foil barbs(5), upside down catfish(6"). Please help us classify it.

Oooh...I think you should send it to me. Looks like a Vieja fenestratus to me, stressed out so its colours are washed out at the moment. Possibly a zonatum, but I think it's got too much "rainbow" in it for that.

It's a 220gal with a 55gal biofilter underneath.

I'm also impressed that sinisterkisses is able to just know exactly what the fish is like that.

Nice pickup and nice tank...those aros and RTC are gonna grow into monsters!

Be mindful of how you decorate, you don't want to add to much decor to the tank so that you take away swimming space from your monsters. I'm not saying go barren, just don't go overboard. Those guys will need room to swim and stretch their fins.

A fellow Arowana keeper Ive got a little guy Hes about 6 inches right now.

If not a fenestratus then possibly guttulatus.
Give it some time to color up. Sexing them is not easy, they're accurately sexed by venting. That or witnessing who's to the laying or who's doing the fertilizing.

Color up as in after he/she completely settles in. It does look a little washed out in the pic.

It's not an acara, if that's what you're trying to get at

well i guess 3 out of the 4 species sugested have humps on there heads forget about structure , size, stress, the man wanted an ID on the fish and your right about one thing it may not be an acara lol umm

The fish is absolutely not in any way a P. dovii. The fish is not Parachromis sp. It doesn't even have the right shape or build.
The 3 most likely candidates for a positive ID were made by sin and I.
P. fenestratus
P. zonatus
P. guttulatus
The fish is without a doubt a Paaratheraps (Vieja) species. The only thing left to ponder is which of the species, if it is in fact a pure specimen, which is difficult to impossible to determine.
BTW, the "nuchal hump
argument is a poor one. Most of the Paratheraps species develop nuchal humps. How big the nuchal humps get depends on age and dominance. Even Dovii develop humps as they age.

You're really starting to drive me nuts. As straight has said above me, this fish looks NOTHING like a dovii, and everything like a Veija/Paratheraps - one of the three possible species listed. Nuchal hump has nothing to do with it, especially if this fish is a female. Go look up my pictures of Vixen, my female fenestratus, and then come grovel when you realize how ignorant you're being.
