im having so much trouble taking a clear picture of my pleco...any advice?

Use the flash and aim downward.

Also I forgot to mention cropping. Crop the picture down some and it helps too.

Yes. The term "bottom dweller" is pretty liberal. If they spend most of their time on the bottom and act as a clean up crew - I would say that yes, they are a bottom dweller.
