I have a 24G that I want to restock with sa/ca cichlids..looking for a pair, most responses in my other thread recommended Convicts. Any other opinions or suggestions. If not I will pick up a pr this weekend probably.

Apistos and GBR's are not an option..tried those and failed and spent alot of money in the process. Looking for something that is hardy and can go a week or 2 if need be with out a water change. (I am in the National Guard and you never know when I may get activtaed for hurricane duty or some other disaster)

I agree, rainbows are nice. Ulike what I've heard about them, mine is a nasty little bugger LOL, my HRPs are much more docile. I actually will be letting go of my HRPs, but TX is a little far for any pickup/delivery and as common as they are now, you would probably be able to find them closer. :)

What about brichardi's? Not sure where they come from, but I've head that they breed pretty readily too. You could get a nice colony out of a pair, and either sell the rest or feed them to your oscars.

You'd be fine with a pair in that tank, most sites will say they get up to 6", but mine is rather small and after discussing it with some other rainbow owners, it seems they rarely get much bigger than about 3".

I only have the 1 for now, so I can't comment on how easily they breed, but FishGeek had this guy breeding when she had a colony of them and he's pretty fond of my green terror and blue acaras! LOL I have also seen adds from people with tanks full needing to thin them out, so I woulden't doubt you'd get babies.

I'd suggest getting about 6 to start with and letting them pair off and then finding a place for the rest if you want a pair though, cichlids can be picky about who they want to mate with sometimes.
