what kind of chilid in a 10gal

if i weret o start a chilid tank could it be with a 10 gal and what would u guys do.

My eyes must be getting bad. When I first saw your thread I thought it asked "what kind of a child for a 10 gal"

Anyhow, a pair of rams or kribs, a small group of checkerboards, a small multi colony, or any of the apistos would be fun to work with.

um i dont know anything about chichlids. im not to sure what u guys mean.

what are they like why are u guys facinated by them. are they able to live with corrys or white cloud tetras or do i have to empty my tank.

No, not really. It depends on the species of cichlid, other fish in the tank, and the tank size. Lots of species are able to live with other fish in the same tank provided that the tankmates are selected properly and the tank is setup correctly. There's only been a few times I've kept cichlids in a species only setup outside of normal quarantine. My oscar because I didn't have a tank large enough for him plus tank mates and N. brichardi because they are just flat out little devils when they start breedin'.

Why are they fascinating? Tons of reasons. Even a 1" cichlid can have the attitude of a 12" cichlid. The parental care is amazing to watch, and some even form family groups letting older fry take care of newer broods. They all have personalities (even discus sorta) and doesn't take long to recognize when you come into the room. My oscar was even able to tell the difference between me, my wife, or any 'stranger' than came into our home. They are truly an amazing family of fish.

what price am i looking at.

what will i need in ym 10 gal for my chichlids. i am willing to rearange everything in the tank.
im short on money.

With rams Id go with either Bolivian or German blue rams...You could get probably 2 maybe 3 (no more than one male).... They shouldn't cost more than 8-10 bucks

kribs are pretty hardy, but they need territory within the tank, even if its a small area.. a few plants, rocks, caves or drift wood like most fish should be good. Rams should need the same type of stuff but are less hardy

Ive never had any but I think two males would be kinda mean in a 10 gallon.... If you keep a female with the male his colors "should" come out better and hell they might breed....

From my experience, a pair of rams in a 10 is a bad thing unless they are both females.
