So if you have followed my other recent posts in this forum you know I bought cons..I didnt think they were realy big enought o breed yet..well today there was a definant pair when i got home from work so i removed the other 3 so the pair could do their thing in peace..well upon futher investigation..i can see eggs on the inside of the skull decoration they have claimed..I didnt expect them to breed that quickly..lol. It is fascinating watchingthem fan the eggs, and they were so protective that if any of the other 3 would go to the bottom of the tank they would quickly chase them back to the top. my guess is 2 days till they hatch correct? Then what another day or 2 until I need to start feeding the fry?

The paradise fish is not to happy with the other 3 being in his tank but he will get over it. I will leave the next pair in with the current stock in the 24G and see what happens.

This is why I am afraid of getting cons.... They look so cool and I really want them but I'm afraid they will pair up, be bullies and screw faster than I can find fish to eat the fry.

What size tank is the pair in? If its bigger than the 24, have you thought about putting the pair in the 24 and the others in that tank? I'm pretty sure a 24 would be fine for a pair of cons

The pair are in a 30G..I planned on a pair in each then the left over female was going to be fish food...the pair had already set up shop and laid eggs yesterday by the time I got home from work so they are staying where there at..lol.

well the eggs hatched on friday but i hadnt seen any fry..I knew from research that the fry wouldnt be free swimming for a couple days after hatching so it didnt suprise me, well i looked into the decoration that the eggs where in and I saw little brown things..i just figured the first batch of eggs didnt hatch and they laid another batch...then i saw the move...looks like there atleast 100...but no way to accurately count right now.

well the pair in the 24G has laid eggs..they laid them in a depression in the driftwood..this should be interesting since the bumblebee cats prowl at night..and there is still a paradise fish in there with them..the paradise is currently the dominent fish in the tank but he hasnt gotten close to the nest yet.

Oh on a side note the other female that was in the 24G became Oscar food..as soon as she was removed from the tank the pair nested.
